Students on the racetrack
Daimler is a cooperation partner of the initiative „VDI Sachen machen“, a nationwide initiative for the support and strengthening of Germany as a center for technological innovation. In this regard, Daimler is engaged in “Formula Student Germany“ (FSG) since 2007.
Every year in August, students of national and international universities meet up at the Hockenheimring to compete within „Formula-1-atmosphere“. The aim of the international construction competition „Formula Student Germany“ is to offer the students the possibility to get to know OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer), car suppliers at an early stage and to introduce new perspectives, energy and ideas.
Since 2010, the event „Formula Student Electric“ (FSE) supports and encourages the development of electric vehicles within the „Formula Student Germany“ competition. Also Daimler is represented by jury members and awards the „Daimler Best E-Drive Packaging Award“, for the best integration and arrangement of the electric impulse rope in a race car within „Formula Student Electric“.
The single-seated formula race cars are developed by the teams and tested within the international construction competitions FSG or FSE against other university teams from the whole world. The bolide must show very good handling characteristics concerning braking power, acceleration and handling, besides that, it has to be produced at a reasonable price and has to be pursued reliably and simply. A jury from experts of the automotive and ancillary industry determines the winner's team with the best package of construction, racing performance, budgetary planning and sales arguments.
